Interview: Pop Songstress Amy Asher Dominates Pop Scene with New Single
Singer-songwriter, Amy Asher is breaking down the doors in the pop music community. With the release of her debut single How To Be Alone gaining over 40k streams, Amy’s back into the scene with her new single Nothin About Us.
Creating music from a young age her talent has not gone unnoticed by industry insiders as she was picked for an esteemed writing camp at Universal Publishing in Nashville among other Belmont songwriting majors — a huge signal that she is a major force within the songwriting world. However, she is not just a talented writer as she is very much a singer too, and is on course to become one of the major voices across the Nashville pop scene.
In our exclusive interview, Amy Asher chats about her new single Not About Us, preparing for her final semester of college, and her biggest influences that inspire to continue to create.
What’s the inspiration behind your new single Not About Us? It was when I was in a good relationship and very much in love. I think our story about meeting and how he made me feel is nothing out of the ordinary to others, but it was to me, and I wanted to capture that in a song.
What can fans expect to listen to this song? They can expect a romantic/ happy song with a big and full production, which is rare for me. I know I wanted to write something not depressing for once, so I asked my friend, Phoebe Scott, to write it with me cause she’s a genius at writing happy songs.
You’re currently going to Belmont. What are you studying? I am a songwriting major and music business minor! Only have one more semester to go!
Where do you want to take your music in the future? There’s one that I’m working on that I’m in love with that has a distorted electric guitar, sounds kind of like “Deep End” by Holly Humberstone. I can’t wait to release it!
Who are your biggest influences? Lennon Stella, Gracie Abrams, Emily Weisband, and of course Taylor Swift. If you walk in my house or get in my car they will most likely be playing! I also love Amy Allen’s songwriting, she’s starting her artist project and I can’t wait to hear more from her!
When did you know that you wanted to pursue music? Probably when I realized I wasn’t good at anything else! Haha but seriously, I was passionate about music and lyrics at a young age and would lay on my floor at 8 years old with my blue boom box listening to top 40 radio and analyze the lyrics.
