Nashville based artist, Brenda Cay has been showcasing her songwriting skills behind the scenes throughout the years. However, with her recent foot-tappin’ release 1–2–3-Floor, Brenda showcases her clever lyric abilities that will make anyone instantly sing-along!

When listening to Brenda’s recent release, I instantly became attached to the catchy lyrical twang and the foot-tappin’ beat. In our exclusive interview with Brenda, the singer-songwriter explains the inspiration behind 1–2–3-Floor, being a songwriter in Music City, and what fans can expect in the upcoming months.

What’s the inspiration behind your recent single release 1–2–3-Floor? I got the idea for 1–2–3-Floor when I was in Gatlinburg. I think I was taste testing moonshine and I saw a shirt that said to be careful drinking moonshine because it’s one sip, two sips, three sips, floor. I thought it was a great idea for a song because we all like to blow off steam after a long week and as I started writing it, it just seemed to lend itself to being a dance song.

You grew up on the eastern shore of Maryland. What was that experience like? The Eastern Shore is such a great place. As a kid, I got to spend so much time boating, swimming, and just hanging out at the beach and on the boardwalk in Ocean City. There’s a lot of natural beauty and amazing wildlife and that has definitely influenced my writing. My song, “Wild Ponies,” which is on the “Angler Management” EP is about the ponies on Assateague Island.

You’ve established your self in Music City as a songwriter. What’s your favorite songwriting experience so far? My favorite songwriting experience so far was probably the first time I co-wrote with someone in Nashville. I had done co-writes locally in Chattanooga where I live and even online with people in other states, but the first time I walked down music row in Nashville with my guitar on my way to a co-write, it was like, “Wow, I’m legit!”

In the music video for 1–2–3-Floor, you took viewers through different scenes. What was it like putting that music video together? The video for 1–2–3-Floor was a lot of work but it was so much fun too. I wanted viewers to feel like they were there with me on a Friday night just having fun as I told the story. My favorite parts of the video are the scenes of everyone out line dancing and just having a good time. It’s exciting to create that three and half minute movie that you saw in your head as you were writing the song and I feel like it really came together well with this video.

What can fans expect in the upcoming months? My second EP that will be coming out in a couple of months and I’m looking forward to getting out and performing as soon as I can. In the meantime, I will be posting videos on FB and doing some FB live shows.
